Providing Good Customer Service As An Internet Marketer
Customer service should be one of the most important aspects of your online business. Just because you only operate over the Internet and rarely see anyone face to face does not give you the excuse to provide poor customer service. In fact, having an internet based business is a big reason to step up your customer service efforts. Many of the sales in the Internet business realm are automated, so you never really think about what sort of customer service your should be offering, but this is a great arena in which you can separate yourself from the competition. When you provide this for them, you will have someone who will continue to come back to you. So here are some things you can do to increase the effectiveness of your customer service.
When someone contacts you, make sure you answer as soon as possible. Do your best to answer any messages within a 24 hour period. A good response has to be a personal one you’ve written yourself. Do not rely on automated messages that do not address the person’s specific question. By responding promptly to inquiries, feedback or even negative comments, you will be telling customers that you are truly concerned about them. Think about it: if you had an offline business, would you leave a client sitting on hold for a week before you picked up the phone to talk to them? If so, you wouldn’t expect to be in business for very long!
Look over the quality of the pages on your web site and make sure they are written well and attractive. You don’t want to have your copy full of spelling or grammatical errors. People surfing the internet don’t know you; your website is going to determine their opinion of you. A site full of typos and mistakes may make visitors doubt the quality of your products. If writing is not your strong suit, hire someone to help you! There are many places online where you can find people who write or edit; shop around and find one who can help you.
Your e-mail should always be working right. Nothing turns off a potential buyer faster than trying to get in touch with you about your product and having their e-mail bounce back to them. Make sure you keep your e-mail inbox below its limits and that it is accepting inbound e-mails. You definitely don’t want to be considered a spammer, and this can happen if many people get e-mails bounced back to them!
Good customer service makes good business sense. Ask your fellow internet marketers what kind of customer service they provide to their buyers. Those with good customer service will bring in more sales than those who don’t. Your business depends on the customers you have, who are real, live people. They are not simply PayPal accounts that send you money. Treating your customers with understanding will create return customers who are happy to continue hiring you.
