Tips To Turn Off Hibernation In Windows Systems

Even though many people realize what Windows hibernation mode is, quite a few tend not to, we hope to explain a little about it in this posting. There are factors this choice can be quite beneficial, and equally as many reasons that it could be considered a hindrance. We intend to also talk about how to turn on or disable hibernation in your computer settings if you would like.

It goes without having to point out that each Windows environment is different, and also the different setups and versions of Windows don’t have the hibernation mode automatically enabled. Should you be unsure your computer has hibernation enabled we have an easy way to check, visit your start menu and click on the shutdown option. If hibernation option is there and you may select it (not grayed out), then its active on your pc. Should you not see it, or if it is grayed out, this means it is either not setup or otherwise not activated. There are numerous reasons why this would occur, however, the most common is your computer’s motherboard bios has been left it in the disable hibernation mode. Reboot your pc and get into the bios to enable it if you wish to apply it.

Hibernation is different than the sleep mode as it actually takes an image of your current activity and will save it to your hard disk, and then turns all power off of your pc. Sleep mode typically may store activity in RAM and then turn off the computer monitor or hard drive, but not the power to the computer. Then whenever you jiggle your mouse it will come back on. Hibernation, you would have to power back up the pc.

It is pretty standard that actual desktop users will choose to turn off hibernation should they feel it doesn’t function properly, or if it gets to be an annoyance. Hibernation could power down your computer while you are listening to music if no activity is found. On the flip side, for the many laptop users, hibernation is a benefit. This can easily be very helpful to help save battery life.

If your pc is employing this function and you wish to disable it, you are able to perform the following steps to disable hibernation mode (note this is for Windows 7):

1.Click on your start menu in task bar 2.Open up Run 3.Enter cmd.exe and hit enter 4.At command prompt enter ‘powercfg -h off” without ‘ and hit enter

You now have turned off hibernation on this computer. Each edition of Windows has different procedures and commands to turn hibernation off or on. Ultimately, it is up to the consumer if they believe using this option is right for them.
